News and Updates: 6-27-14

Posted by / in Blog / 8 comments

Happy Friday everybody! Hopefully you all have fun weekends planned. Some important news and stuff:

  1. I will be away from the internet and my computer all next week (Boy Scout Camp!), so updates will be a bit sparser. I’m going to try to schedule some posts, so the pages should still update, especially if I make Nick pull his weight and take care of it ;)
  2. We just got a review/critique podcast from the folks at Deconstructing Comics. It’s about 18 minutes of audio, and has a lot of good thoughts and points about the story, the underlying tropes, and how they all fit together, that we will think about to make the story even better :)
  3. As part of that, I realized that some of their (very valid) confusions/questions are answered in the Extras section, especially in the Lore section. But I don’t know if you are all aware of it (or even of this Blog section!). Check them out!
  4. Check out these adorable character/onions that artist Sonya Somers of Zukahnaut drew for us! I was bothering her on twitter, and somehow got her to draw our characters as onions. I know, we’re weird.

Anyways, enjoy your weekend, and I’ll see you when I get back. If there are any problems while I’m gone, bother Nick ;)

The CAPS Auction For Stan & Sharon Sakai

Posted by / in Blog / No comments yet

The above images are of some pieces that Nick won in a really cool auction to support Stan Sakai, the iconic creator of classic webcomic Usagi Yojimbo, with his wife’s medical bills.

Here’s some of the official blurb from the Comic Art Professional Society who’s running the auction:

This is an auction conceived and organized by CAPS (Comic Art Professional Society) to help aid USAGI YOJIMBO creator Stan Sakai and his wonderful wife Sharon with increasing medical bills due to Sharon’s present debilitating illness. We have items by many of the industry’s top artists, companies, and fans alike. With over 400 pieces to be auctioned here, we will be listing 30-40 pieces of original art, signed prints and books, and limited edition statues every week. Each auction will run 10 days, and will start on every Thursday for a minimum of 10 weeks. Be sure to bookmark this page, and let’s raise some money for a great guy and his family!

While eBay prohibits us from listing specific names of the SPECTACULAR artists who personally gave us art to sell in our series of auctions, we have a lot of talented artist and amazing items, and encourage you to check out our other auctions, and to bookmark this page since we will listing 30-50 items every week… And will keep listing till its all gone

REMEMBER: 100% of the funds collected from this auction will go directly to Stan & Sharon Sakai. Thank you so much for being part of this AMAZING event.

Nick bid and won a couple of art pieces, as well as a couple of books and other cool stuff. We recommend you all check out the auction page and see if there is anything cool you’d like to bid on. You get cool stuff, and help support a good cause.

April Fools!

Posted by / in Blog / 3 comments

Actually, the joke is that there is no joke. Think about that one.

News update and stuff. We ended up taking 2nd in the vote contest through Top Web Comics we’ve been talking about for awhile. We couldn’t get 1000 votes in a day like the other guy somehow did. Magically.

But, the contest organizers are giving us all the same rewards to acknowledge and reward our hard work promoting them. If you go to their main page you should see a blurb up at the top (permalink in case it changes). I love the word choice used. I recommend you read it yourself ;) You’ll also see that we have a GIF ad up, as one of the rewards for 2nd place. Having that ad has brought up our page views to an average of 2000 a day this last week. That plus the new Top 100 ranking for April (vote, btw) has us today at almost 4000 page views!

So as stressful and annoying as the contest was (which I won’t really get into here), it was beneficial, and got a lot more eyes on our project. Heck, some of you reading this might even have come from clicking our ad or something. Welcome! ;)

Anyways, just wanted to give you an update on everything. Stay tuned for a new page on Thursday by Seba. You’ll really enjoy it :D

TopWebComics.com rank and The Demon Archives

Posted by / in Blog / No comments yet

Hey all!

Don’t know if many of you actually read the blog posts and not just the most recent comic page (for which I don’t blame you, because it’s more exciting than me just talking about stuff), but I wanted to talk about how we are doing on the TopWebComics.com ranking.
